SHARK SMART is a program designed to assist biology and science teachers in creating dynamic  lectures on sharks and other marine topics (such as marine reserves and biodiversity) that will  capture the imagination of their students. Iemanya is currently creating an extensive shark  education curriculum with the aim of providing appropriate materials and training to teachers.

The curriculum will foster a shark conservation mindset in school age children and teach the concept  of sustainable use of resources. IEMANYA's goals are to create educational programs that raise  national and international public awareness of sharks, and to encourage public and government  participation in conservation efforts.

These goals will be achieved through promoting public awareness of the ecological role of sharks and  fishery conservation issues. An educated and interested public will not only make informed personal  decisions (such as reducing demand for shark products) but can also be a substantial political and  advocacy force in changing the management of sharks.
