Location tagged: Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja, Mexico
Type of Tag(s) Used: SPOT & PAT
Gender: Male
Length: 5.5 meters (18 feet)
Estimated age: Juvenile
Tagging Team Members: Dr. Rachel Graham

Information: Calvin was tagged in the warm waters of Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja California, on the Sea of Cortez. He is 18 feet long, still considered a juvenile, since whale sharks can grow up to 60 feet in length! Calvin was “double-tagged” with SPOT and PAT tags, two types of satellite tags that will give the research team information such as depth, light and salinity levels in addition to location. This information will help the researchers understand more about whale shark behavior and critical habitats, which is important in protecting these magnificent animals!

Addendum: Calvin's Tags were disconnected on Monday January 18, 2010 and we wish Calvin a long and safe journey.
